Set your #goals and stay #focused on achieving them… no matter what #obstacles get in your way. #perseverance is one of the many traits we teach in the #martialarts. But you also have to be willing to adjust and adapt to whatever #challenges arise.
I set a goal a few years ago to bike all 50 states before the age of 60. My slogan was “biking all 50 before the age of 60.” I had projected and planned to achieve the goal and finish with the beautiful state of Hawaii, where I planned to celebrate with my children by my side. Then COVID hit and I lost a year of traveling. I was so close, and could have rushed it to visit Alaska (but as my friend Jenn pointed out … “why? aren’t you supposed to enjoy the process”).
So as any good martial artist would do, I took a step back, reevaluated, adapted, and came up with a new plan and slogan… “biking all 50 before the end of 60”. My adapted goal… I will complete a 3 state journey next June, with my daughter Kirsten, then finish up with the amazing state of Alaska (#50)!
When we surround ourselves with like minded people, who support and encourage us, and challenge us to do better (Jean-Luc), they give you an idea on how to grow and get stronger … I may just have an epic way to end this journey… can anyone guess what that may be?!?
